Live Albums...

Post by Discopants on Wed Oct 22, 2008 5:45 pm

Been talking to a few people recently and just realised that live albums are pretty unpopular (at least amongst them lol). Wondered if anyone here felt the same?

I personally love them, even more so than the actual albums in some cases. I reckon Slipknot's best disc is their live one. I love hearing the crowd and band interact. Manson is someone else who sounds great on live albums especially after seeing him because you can just picture exactly what's going on.

Admittedly their are a lot of crap, disjointed, low quality live albums but if done properly they become timeless. Which a few already are I suppose. The Who Live at Leeds is one of their most famous.

So anyway, what d'you all reckon to live albums?

I'm not a huge fan of live albums. The only live albums I own and still listen to are my Nirvana ones. Unplugged is a totally different thing as a live album. Otherwise I'm not really a big fan unless it has something to offer that a regular recorded album doesn't. If they have bonus songs they've never released on a real album, I would usually pick it up and it would be worth my money. Otherwise, why buy a live album when I have what they're trying to sound like already. Every bands wants to be able to preform live as good as they do on their records, so I don't see the point.

I love live albums, well the couple that I have. But some people just need to stay in the studio.
The Garth Brooks Double Live is awesome, it's easily his best disc., but that's because his live shows are just amazing, but that's because he's a great entertainer, and his live show is a cut above his studio work, and I love his studio work, it's awesome, but his live show, it's just something else. I have never met one person that hasn't like the Double Live album, both country and non country fans. Like, it's highest selling live album ever, so, the quality in that one is evident.

Another live album I have is George Strait - For The Last Time : Live From The Astrodome, and it sounds great, it just doesn't have the entertainment value, imo, that Garth's does, I love George, but he's a studio act, ie, he sounds far better on a studio CD, as opposed to a live one.

It just depends on the artist, some are better live, some aren't as good live, and some sound exactly the same live. Just depends

I have a few live albums. The Slipknot Live 9.0 one is one of my favourites, along with Children Of Bodom's Stockholm Knockout and their Tokyo Showdown album, as well as In Flames' The Tokyo Showdown (Lol wtf?)
