As juvenile as they seem I still love them. Listened to all their albums millions of times and with the exception of "Golden Age..." I love 'em all. Saw them at Wembley last xmas and it was the best gig I've been to.

You gotta check out "Tourniquet" if you haven't heard it. My favorite song by MM. Most of his songs I see as kinda pointless though. Not really that much of a fan.

Totally not my genre of music but I like Marilyn Manson anyway. "Tainted Love" is one of my favourites, the other covers have been lame in my opinion but Manson's was cool. "This is the New Shit" is another track I like by them along with "The Dope Show", "Disposable Teens", "Personal Jesus" and "Heart-Shaped Glasses. I like Manson because the band make metal which is catchy and memorable rather than random incoherant screaming and heavy merging riffs.

Marilyn Manson is the definition of overrated. A mediocre artist who got famous on his shock factor.

It might have helped at first but you don't have a career over 15 successful years just through a "shock factor". I used to think the same but if you look past the silly imagery then the music is amazing.

It's very easy to have a career over 15 years with a shock factor and a cult following. Certain bands get extremely loyal fans that will support and buy no matter how much the artist changes or sells out. A lot of bands that have fans like that are Slipknot and ICP. You could hardly say ICP is getting fans from their "musical talent".

Well they've hardly enjoyed the same level of success lol.

And as for Slipknot they are a very similar case to Manson. They have these "shocking" images and that does attract the cult of fans you talked about but that cult of fans isn't going to carry on loving Slipknot just because they wear masks or loving Manson just because he says naughty things about the pope. The musical quality is what holds the true fans and both these bands have that which is why they have enjoyed successful careers.

I like Manson, but he is hugely overrated by the most of his fans. I mean, he isn't the greatest musician, and he's more of a character then a musician. He is a marketing genius though, you have to admit that. He developed an image that he knew would get his popularity and notoriety, and how much success has he had? Although people can say that he copied the likes of Alice Cooper in the shock rock category, he still made an image that made him a household name.
