Horror Movies You Should See: Because I Said So! Empty Horror Movies You Should See: Because I Said So!

Post by xNICKYURINEx Wed Oct 22, 2008 11:37 am

Now please know, I tried to list movies that are more unknown in the genre. Obviously I left out the classics such as The Shining and Halloween, and all of those. But this is a pretty decent list, most of these movies are hard to find but some are quite easily available. Enjoy!

1.) Slaughter High (1986)
A group of popular students play a cruel prank on a shy nerd resulting in a terrible accident. Years later a reunion is held where each of the students face a stalker killer who may be the same nerd out for revenge.

2.) Maniac (1980)
Frank misses his mother, who was killed in a car accident years before. She was abusive to him, and made money selling her body, but Frank still misses her. He tries to keep her from leaving him, and reform her evil ways, by killing young women and putting their scalps on mannequins which he displays around his apartment. Photographer Anna takes a picture of him in the park, and he pursues and befriends her. Is she the one he's been looking for or just another mommy wanna be?

3.) Re-Animator (1985)
In this H.P. Lovecraft tale, Herbert West is a Swiss scientist who has discovered a fluid which brings dead tissue back to life. After the suspicious death of his professor in Switzerland, West moves to Miskatonic University to continue his research. He involves fellow student Dan Cain and his fiancée Megan Halsey in his research by experimenting on their dead cat. Dan, fascinated by West's research, agrees to smuggle him into the hospital morgue with predictable results.

4.) I Spit On Your Grave: Day of the Woman (1978)
The film follows Jennifer, a writer who is working on a new novel and needs to get out of the city to finish it. She hires a riverside apartment in upstate New York to finish her novel, attracting the attention of a number of rowdy male locals. They catch Jenifer one day and strip her naked for the village idiot (Matthew) and rape her. Jennifer is later attacked and raped a further two times by the four degenerates, and her novel is also destroyed. But Jennifer slowly recovers and in her now-twisted, psychotic mind, she then begins to seek revenge on the four men who raped her

5.) The Devil's Rejects (2005)
This is the sequel to Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses, set some time after the original films plot line it opens with a raid on the murderous Firefly home by Ruggsville County Sheriff John Wydell, brother of Firefly victim Deputy George Wydell (from the first film). After a shootout in which several deputies are killed , with one son killed, Mother Firefly is captured , Baby, and Otis escape and rendezvous later with the Firefly patriarch, the mad clown Capt Spaulding. After a mind blowing murder escapade at a dusty desert motel they retreat to a frontier town whorehouse run by Spaulding's adopted "brother" Charlie, while Sheriff Wydell slowly loses his mind in his quest for revenge. He enlists the help of two equally disgusting bounty hunters and tracks the the trio, now dubbed the "Devil's Rejects" by the media to their location and sets the stage for the final showdown.

6.) Black Christmas (1974)
This 98-minute film is a stark and stylish horror/thriller that turns everyone's favorite time of the year inside out. Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder star among an ill-fated houseful of sorority sisters celebrating the holiday season. Festivities turn fatal when obscene phone calls break the serenity and it becomes clear that a psychopath is stalking the house

7.) The Evil Dead (1981)
Five friends go up to a cabin in the woods where they find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only one remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.

8.) August Underground's Mordum (2003)
Two serial killers go on a murdering rampage as one films the outcome from behind a video camera. One of the most realistically portrayed simulated snuff films.

9.) Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
An anthropologist heads a rescue party into the South American jungle to find a missing film team making a documentary on cannibal tribes, but the viewing of their footage reveals their crueler intentions

10.) The Last House on the Left (1972)
After kidnapping and butchering two teenagers, a gang of rapists and murderers unknowingly seeks refuge with the parents of one of the victims.

Some good ones there but i refuse to watch Cannibal Holocaust. There's absolutely no need for genuine animal cruelty, it's just a film. So that's why I wouldn't watch that one.

August Undergounds a dodgy one lol. Possibly one of the worst films I've ever sat through (it was boring as hell) but it is one people should see. I can imagine it freaking some people out.

One I would stick in there is The Fly. It's a bit corny but I still think it's a fantastic film. You genuinely feel for the people in it and the slow transformation he goes through is horrible. Great performances all round too.

The Fly was definitely one I considered putting in there. I also wanted to put The Thing on the list as well, both of which are fantastic movies.

I understand about Cannibal Holocaust, it's a brutal movie though. So brutal that a judge asked for the director to prove that the people in the film were still alive. It's definitely a movie that really just shocks you, although animals were killed in the making.

I also agree about August Undeground's Mordum. It isn't the most exciting movie in the world but it is probably one of the most disturbing and hardest to sit through. I love horror movies that make you uncomfortable, those are the ones that really instill fear into people.

A horror movie that i personally love that not many people know about is "Dr. Giggles"(1992). Here's the story...

Its about a "wanna-be" doctor (dr. giggles A.K.A. Evan Rendell) that escapes a mental institution, and goes back to his home town of moorehigh to get revenge for his fathers death. His father was a doctor, but he started to kill off his patients by cutting out their hearts, in order to find a heart to transplant for his wife (which is dieing). But when the towns people find out what he's doing, they all go to his house and kill him. Somehow evan escapes and windes up in a mental institution. Now, 35 years later, after he escapes, dr. giggles (nicknamed dr. giggles for his hidious laugh) starts going around the town, killing people in a sergical theme. After he kills about 3 people, he finds out that a girl in the town has heart problems, so his main goal is to find her and give her a heart transplant....

Thats basicly the main story. Its actually a really good movie even though its kinda unheard of. I have it on DVD. The death scenes are actually really creative! For example, he uses a lipo-suction pump to kill one lady, its pretty sick. But i definetly recomend it! Its got Larry Drake playing dr. giggles too. The movie also has a lot of humor in it too (almost as a joke). Its one of my favorites!

B-Movie are always the scariest to me. They have cheap effects and out of this world plots, but they are the ones that always have me looking behind my back just to make sure I'm alone.

I think all these movies on this list are Rated R. If you want a good B-movie that isn't R check out "Killer Klowns From Outer Space". I just bought it not too long ago, it's totally a classic. It's cheesey as hell but you got to love the idea. Definitely a film worth watching just for the laughs.

Yea, i agree that B-movie horrors are always the best, because if its too popular, it dosent seem as scary to me. I mean, i love all the "Haloween/michael myers" movies, but i dont find them that scary, I just find them really cool. But the cornyness in B- movies can sometimes creep me out, because the death scenes are usually so outragous, that I dont wanna imagine how painfull it would really be. I actually found this B- movie gore montage called "opra of splatter..." on youtube. Its gorey ass clips from random B- horror movies. Its actually pretty funny. I'll post it on the site in the "off topic videos" section, if anyone wants to see it.

Another set of crackin horror films you should check out is the "Guinea Pig" films, particularly Flowers of Flesh and Blood. Really vivid movies but not as corny as a lot of horrors.

Well it's just a series of films (not connected with each other) by one company.

Their Japanese but it really doesn't matter, especially with FOFAB which I reckon is the best/nastiest of the lot. They actually had to prove the film was fake to the FBI because it seemed so real lol. I mean, publicity just doesn't get better than that. Their still banned in Japan but widely available on the net now.

Make sure you watch the early ones though because they just turned into silly, gorey comedies after that.
