i think its just a load of bull and theres no whay to prove that it makes people go crazy and kill everyone. just because you listen to metal dosent mean that you atomaticly will go out and kill pluse they blow the whole thing out of proportion. since people make such a big deal out of this kinde of music everyone wants to know why its so bad so kids go out and by this godly music and like it. so in a whay they actualy help metal become bigger and bigger

In that case, I also think thats bullshit. To be honest, most of the time, people who are kind of depressed listen to metal. They do stuff like that cuz they're depressed, not because of metal. Metal actually helps people with issues like that. When I first got into metal, I was pretty depressed but metal really helped. I'm not depressed at all anymore, I have a great life, but metal helped me through some tough times. I probably would have never gotten into metal if I wasn't depressed at one point.

I'm getting off topic. Bottom line, metal = healthy release from problems

and metal helps me too i kind of have a anger problem but when i listen to metal it helps me calm down and instead of throwing things i listen to metal and every thing is ok

Metal is a nice scapegoat for shit that happens. It's bigger but not mainstream and is full of what the media can so easily portray as "villainous" and "sinister". It's a perfect thing to cover up for social inadequacies.

Simple answer, no it doesn't.
Mainly because, while Metal is a bit more depressing than mainstream, every genre has their depressing songs. I can think of songs from almost every genre that have depressing lyrics, and talk about suicide and death, hell, I'm listening to a country song about suicide right now.

I think it is very misunderstood. And to some one who does not "get it" they could take away nothing but negitive thoughts away. But if you are in to that music and know the people you would know it is not like that at all. But hey got to blame someone right?

Yea, I think its bullshit too . I mean, I find it as a good stress reliver. I mean, there are those times where you feel so depressed and pissed off, that you just want to kill everyone in the same room with you, but metal helps me calm down those feelings. But it always seems to be the people that hate metal that blame it for making people do stuff like suicide and murder. I just find it to be a bad stereotype. Overall, I like metal, and think that it helps people deal with issues, stress, or just blow off some steam.

I think that sometimes, it can be a contributing factor. People can sometimes not understand the lyrics of a particular song. For example, the Song A Tout Le Monde is believed to be about Suicide and that, but I believe it's about getting over the death of a loved one, and how to cope, or something like that.

I believe Dave Mustaine said something about the belief of it being about Suicide and he flat out said it wasn't.

Watching that Metal: A Headbangers Journey, it shows people, just normal metal fans, who talk about metal. Most of them said that they could always depend on metal to be there for them after a difficult day. Music is music, and it doesn't leave you or resent you. It doesn't judge you or anything, it's there for you to enjoy.

Now, obviously metal isn't for everyone, but I think it's highly unfair for bands like Slipknot, Marilyn Manson etc to repeatedly be blamed for murder/suicide because they listened to it. :O. Because the murderer or whatever listened to that kind of music, that is quite obviously the reason why they went out and did something like that. No thought that there could be a different contributing factor in why this happened, it's just automatically, if they listened to metal, that is the reason why. The media doesn't understand the music and how deep it can mean to some people. Sometimes, after a hard day, I can use music to relate, sometimes uplift me. Never has listening to Children Of Bodom made me want to go commit murder or something. But I guess some might twist the lyrics up and believe that they are encouraging it or something.

So, in both ways, metal is a sometimes a contributing factor, and sometimes, it is pointed at unfairly as the sole reason for violence.
