Marvel and Paramount seal new deal Empty Marvel and Paramount seal new deal

Post by Sykesy Tue Sep 30, 2008 4:45 pm

After the box office bonanza of Iron Man, it really wasn’t a big shock for Paramount and Marvel to announce that the two companies will team back up for the likes of Thor, The Avengers and Iron Man’s sequel.

According to Variety, Paramount and Marvel have officially struck a deal to distribute the Marvel films that are coming out across the next few years, including Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2, Thor (which is now being directed by Kenneth Branagh), The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers.

There’s also word that the studios are officially looking at adding Iron Man 3 to their schedules, which, while is very likely to happen (what with Favreau talking it up), is still not confirmed.

Release Dates Shift
Also included in the latest announcement is word that several of the films will shift their release dates. Iron Man 2 will now open a week later than planned, on May 7th 2010, Thor shoved to July 16th 2010 and Captain America arriving on May 6th, 2011. That date will see it competing with Disney’s third Narnia outing, The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader.

Finally, there is The Avengers, which is scheduled to open on July 15th, 2011. There is, as ever, no word on that one. That’s the studio business sorted out – maybe now someone will announce who is handling half these films. We’ve got fanboy fretting to do, people!

I think they may be going a little over the top with the entire superhero drama but i cans ee why Marvel would. Iron Man was the blockbuster of the summer until Batman came along and practically crapped on it.
