Cahill gets three match ban
Australian midfielder Tim Cahill will miss three English Premier League matches after Everton failed in their bid to overturn the red card he received in Saturday's Merseyside derby.
Cahill will be suspended for matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Cahill was dismissed by referee Mike Riley for "serious foul play" after a challenge on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Everton lodged a claim for wrongful dismissal on Monday.
Following a hearing on Tuesday, the Football Association confirmed an independent regulatory commission had rejected the appeal and Cahill would serve the suspension with immediate effect.
